There is something truly special about a destination wedding weekend in Mexico, the anticipation, the time spent together, and the way every moment feels just a little more intentional. Regina and her partner, Jonathan, celebrated at Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort. The perfect example of why couples choose a Mexico destination wedding. They want both a luxurious experience and a meaningful time with the people they love most.
Intimate Wedding Morning Details
We began the day documenting some of the intimate wedding details. Regina’s bouquet perfectly captured the tropical atmosphere of the resort. One of my favorite moments of the morning was watching Regina get ready with both of her parents by her side. There was something so meaningful about having her mom and dad present together for such a big moment. It felt emotional, grounding, and incredibly special.
A Dramatic First Look at Dreams Playa Mujeres
For their first look, I wanted to find a location that felt dramatic and private. At large destination resorts, it can sometimes be tricky to find spaces that are quiet and away from guests, but we discovered the perfect tucked away spot. It was protected from the wind, secluded from other resort guests, and created the perfect atmosphere for Regina and Jonathan to see each other for the first time.
The night before their rehearsal dinner had been rainy and dark, so we were all holding our breath, hoping the weather would turn. We walked the resort the night before together to choose the perfect locations for moments like this. When the sun came out on the morning of their wedding day, it felt like the perfect gift. After months of planning their destination wedding in Mexico, they finally had the bright, beautiful day they had imagined.
Sunset Letters & Portraits by the Ocean
In true wedding fashion, not everything goes exactly as planned. Regina couldn’t find the letter she had written that morning, so we made a quick decision to pivot. Instead of reading them before the ceremony, they chose to save that moment for sunset later in the evening, once we secured the letter. Sometimes those spontaneous changes end up becoming the most meaningful parts of the day.
After their first look, we moved into portraits around the resort before heading to the ceremony space along the beach.
An Oceanfront Ceremony with Tropical Florals
The ceremony setup overlooking the ocean was absolutely stunning. Cascading tropical pink and green florals framed the altar and brought so much life and color to the space. With the ocean waves behind them and their closest family and friends gathered together, the ceremony felt incredibly intimate despite being set at a grand destination resort.
Moments like this are exactly why couples choose a destination wedding weekend in Mexico, everyone they love gathered in one place, celebrating together in such a beautiful setting.
Mariachi Music & Cocktail Hour Celebrations
After the ceremony, we joined guests for a cocktail hour where a lively mariachi band filled the air with music. It was such a fun way to embrace the local culture and bring energy to the celebration while guests mingled, enjoyed cocktails, and soaked in the ocean views.
A Terrace Reception Under the Lights
The reception transitioned to the terrace, where string lights created the most romantic atmosphere overhead. Warm lighting, ocean breezes, and the soft glow of the terrace made the space feel cozy yet elegant.
The night was filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and plenty of dancing. Regina’s dance with her dad was such a joy to witness. He kept things playful and lighthearted, and you could feel how special their relationship is. The addition of sparklers during the Newlyweds’ first dance made those moments even more unforgettable.
Ending the Night with a Pool Jump & After Party
As the night went on, the dance floor stayed packed. In true destination wedding spirit, the celebration ended with one final hoorah, everyone jumped onto the dance floor and maybe a quick dip in the pool before heading to the after party to keep the celebration going.
It’s moments like these that remind me how special destination wedding weekends really are. Instead of just a single wedding day, couples get an entire experience filled with connection, adventure, and memories that last far beyond the ceremony.
I am forever grateful when I get to spend entire wedding weekends with my couples, documenting every part of their story, from the quiet morning moments to the unforgettable celebrations under the stars.
If you’re planning a destination wedding in Mexico, a weekend celebration at Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort is truly the perfect setting for bringing all of your favorite people together in one beautiful place.
