Flat Lays

Top 6 Curated Wedding Flat Lays: My Most Memorable Creations as a Wedding Photographer

Flat lays are one of my absolute favorite parts of wedding photography. They’re a chance to create a cohesive, meticulously designed composition that tells the story of a wedding day before it even begins. I love curating elements that go together seamlessly, delicate invitations, heirloom rings, soft florals, and personal touches that reflect each couple’s unique style. These details not only set the tone for the gallery but also serve as a visual time capsule, preserving the small but meaningful pieces that might otherwise be forgotten.

1. Soft and Blue Marble Flat lay

This wedding flat lay is a beautifully layered composition that creates depth and emotion through carefully chosen details. The handwritten vows serve as the foundation, drawing the eye into the heartfelt words that symbolize the couple’s love story. Soft florals, including blush toned roses and delicate white blooms, add a romantic touch, enhancing the overall softness.

Shades of blue are elegantly incorporated through the envelope, delicate jewelry accents, and a soft blue ring box, representing the bride’s gentle nature and wedding color palette. Gold embellishments, such as intricate hairpieces and dainty earrings, provide a subtle contrast, adding warmth and elegance. The use of translucent and textured paper elements, paired with organic greenery and scattered floral buds, creates a sense of movement and depth.

2. Valentines Flat Lay

This Valentine’s wedding flat lay at The Brix on the Fox beautifully blends romance with a modern, industrial edge. By utilizing the venue’s textured concrete floor subtly incorporating the character of the space. In certain shots, the venue’s signature brickwork peeks through, grounding the imagery in its setting.

Red rose petals, repurposed from the couple’s altar florals, are scattered organically, mimicking the effortless romance of petals thrown across a bed. The bold red invitations and ring boxes add a striking contrast to the neutral toned flooring, creating a visually rich and passionate aesthetic. Champagne toned bridal heels, delicate gold jewelry with ruby accents, and a timeless perfume bottle complete the scene, enhancing the sense of refined intimacy.

My goal was for this flat lay to feel both playful and deeply romantic, effortlessly tying in the couple’s relationship, wedding theme with the venue’s unique ambiance.

3. Vintage Disco Flat Lay

This vintage disco wedding flat lay is a stunning nod to the couple’s retro inspired celebration, bursting with personality and nostalgic charm. The rich wood flooring from the venue acts as a warm, textured backdrop, grounding the design while adding a touch of organic contrast to the vibrant details layered on top.

Disco balls scattered throughout reflect light and energy, instantly evoking the glamorous party atmosphere of the ‘70s. The invitations, featuring bold geometric shapes and retro color blocking, perfectly align with the vintage disco aesthetic. A vintage style newspaper introduces a storytelling element, reinforcing the old school charm while adding an extra layer of depth and character.

To keep the energy of disco alive, I intentionally scattered everything across the floor. Just like the scene at the end of an epic party when confetti is everywhere, shoes are kicked off after dancing all night, and the magic of the celebration still lingers in the air. The scattered pastel confetti, later used in the festivities, ties everything together seamlessly, creating a sense of movement and fun. The bride’s powder blue, knotted heels, along with gold jewelry accents, bring in texture and a hint of retro elegance.

4. Classic Black and White Flat Lay

This flat lay perfectly embodies the timeless and classic essence. The white invitation suite, with its clean and minimal design, reflects the couple’s refined aesthetic, allowing simplicity to speak volumes. I intentionally kept the details understated, mirroring the elegance of their wedding day. The classic shoes in the corner provide a sense of balance while serving as a subtle yet striking statement piece.

To weave in a touch of the bride’s personality, I incorporated a delicate piece of her dress. Its subtle sparkle adding a soft, romantic glow as well as a touch of greenery from her bouquet gently helps guides the eye through the composition, creating a natural flow and adding just the right amount of organic movement.

Sometimes, I love to take an extra shot featuring just the couple’s vows, creating a statement piece and a heartfelt surprise in their gallery. It’s a special way to highlight their words and and perseve emotions in a timeless, elegant way.

5. Black and Gold Foil Flat Lay

This particular flat lay holds a special place in my heart, as it was the one that truly sparked my passion for creating them. I was so inspired by the thoughtful details the couple provided that it became a defining moment in my journey.

The black background sets a dramatic and sophisticated tone, allowing every element to stand out with intention. To keep the couple’s aesthetic cohesive, I incorporated green and white velvet ribbon, not only to tie in their color palette but also to guide the eye seamlessly around the composition. Delicate touches of gold foil were sprinkled throughout, adding texture and a subtle shimmer that brings depth and visual interest.

To balance a sense of structure with creativity, I arranged the invitations neatly as the foundation, while the other details like florals from the bouquet, ribbons, and accents, were artfully scattered to create a sense of fullness and completion.

6. Simple and Timeless Flat lay

This flat lay is a beautiful reminder that you don’t always need a multitude of tiny details to create a stunning composition. Sometimes, all it takes are a few carefully chosen statement pieces and a thoughtful arrangement to bring a design to life. For this bride, who didn’t have an abundance of items, I knew that less could be more.

The simplicity of her pieces, paired with the elegance of her overall wedding vibe, allowed me to craft something sophisticated and timeless. Every item, like pieces from her bouquet and lace shoes, though minimal, was placed with intention and purpose, highlighting the essence of the day. The result is a flat lay that feels refined and cohesive, showing that it’s not about the quantity of details, but how you place them to tell a beautiful, balanced story.
